Silent pianos

A silent piano is a combination of an acoustic and a digital piano. In fact a silent piano is an ordinary piano which also has hammers and strings, but in addition has a number of characteristics of a digital piano. A silent piano has the silent system built in, in which case you can play an ordinary acoustic piano, but you hear the sound through a pair of headphones . The people in the same house or the neighbors do not hear the sound of the piano.

How does a silent piano work?

With a normal piano the hammers strike the strings to produce sound. When the silent system is switched on, the acoustic mechanism of the piano is being shut off. The hammers do not strike the strings because of a so called stop rail. Sensors have a connection with the digital part which is built in the piano. They moderate the signal of the keys and measure which key is being pressed and the duration of it. These sensors control built in sound samples in the piano and the piano converts the sensors in a digital sound which is heard through the headphones. This digital sound is comparable with the sound of an acoustic piano
